Our story

Tusome – a Swahili word meaning "let us learn" – embodies our commitment to placing education in the hands of those who need it most. The name reflects our belief that learning is a shared journey, driven by the communities we serve. Every project under Tusome is rooted in action-based research and community-driven interventions, ensuring that our solutions are practical, impactful, and sustainable.

Founded in 2019 as a social enterprise, Tusome began with a passionate team of 8 young men and women dedicated to making a difference. Our early efforts focused on designing and implementing low-cost projects in education, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), and TVET (Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurial Education Training). These initiatives were designed to empower communities, spark innovation, and create opportunities for lifelong learning.

By July 2024, Tusome had expanded its reach to multiple communities and increased the services provided, scaling our impact and deepening our commitment to education. To reflect this growth and the evolving needs of our beneficiaries, we underwent a transformation. This included a administrative change to better represent our unified vision and the addition of new beneficiary groups. We also expanded our mission to align with more Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that our work contributes to a broader global agenda for equity, inclusion, and sustainable development.

Today, Tusome is more than just an organization – it’s a movement. We continue to empower learners, educators, and communities through innovative, community-based solutions that transform lives and build a brighter future for all.
